Medieval Codices from the Premonstratensian Canonry in Nová Říše
Five medieval manuscripts from the collections of the library of the Premonstratensian Canonry in Nová Říše were made available online in 2026. The oldest of these is a collection of sermons and meditative texts from the first half of the fourteenth century (shelfmark NŘ 59). A codex produced around 1430 contains a German translation of Augustine of Ancona’s treatise on the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and a commentary on a section of the Gospel of John (NŘ 15). A German prayer book (NŘ 72) dates from the second half of the fifteenth century. Two manuscripts were copied at the end of the fifteenth century and the beginning of the sixteenth century and are associated with a Franciscan milieu: these are a collection of meditative texts (NŘ 67) and an exposition on the Franciscan Rule along with a collection of other documents (NŘ 66).
