Manuscriptorium: integration of remote data contributors and the distributed digital library

On 9.6.2006 the National Library of the Czech Republic hosted an international workshop enabling participants to familiarise themselves with the current state of Manuscriptorium and its objectives for the near future. A presentation was given of the M-Tool program, which is intended to assist in the fulfilment of these objectives.

A special test version of Manuscriptorium was created for the purposes of this workshop. Participants had the opportunity to prepare in advance digitised images of any document they wished on the servers of their home institutions and during the practical phase of the workshop (in co-operation with support and administrative staff in attendance) they created the necessary metadata in M-Tool and imported it directly into the system. The outcome of their work, i.e full digital documents accessible in Manuscriptorium, was available before the completion of the workshop.

During the practical session, new requirements for a universal version of the M-Tool program also emerged.

The test version of Manuscriptorium remains available to partners on www.manuscriptorium.com/ws. You can use M-Tool to create metadata and subsequently contact our administrators, who will without obligation make the trial data accessible separately from the main Manuscriptorium data.
